Blog: Can I claim the cost of work calls made on my mobile phone?

October 23, 2014

We recently had a question from one of our contractors regarding claiming back expenses of work calls made on the contractor’s mobile phone...

Good news is that you CAN claim expenses for work calls made on your mobile phone and here’s how to simply calculate the amount to claim.

For the mobile phone you can use a percentage that the phone is used for work, and claim that percentage of the bill as the expense.

It might be difficult to work out the schedule of work trips and phone bills, so an estimate of the overall split between personal and business would be acceptable.

For this expense, we’d just need the percentage you’ve worked out and a copy of the front page of the bill so we can calculate the amount to claim.

It’s important to keep all your mobile phone bills in case HMRC ever do a check on what you are claiming!

If you’d like further advice on claiming expenses please contact one of our experts on 0203 713 4530 or email contact@carringtonumbrella.co.uk
