What did the Chancellor say about T & S?
Well, it is no surprise that the Chancellor announced in today’s Autumn Statement that from April 2016 there will be changes that in some cases will restrict tax relief on travel and subsistence expenses. This was flagged by Carrington Umbrella when we were discussing the consultation document produced earlier this year.
As yet the Chancellor hasn’t revealed enough detail in his statement for us to know exactly what the full impact will be. It is unclear as to whom it will apply and under what circumstance, but we know it will apply if you’re working through an employment intermediary, such as an umbrella company or a personal service company.
We will have to wait until 9th December, when further information is anticipated and will allow us to see how it’s going to play out in reality. So please wait until 9th December before making any changes. As we have said before, umbrella companies are not dead, as contracting is here to stay. So, whatever your work style, Carrington Umbrella will be there to support you every step of the way.
